C. Mounting the (PSE) module and (VRM) module

1. Locate the (Figure 3):

^ 25-pole D-connector

^ 15-pole D-connector

^ 4-pole antenna switch connector

^ coaxial cable from the center console

^ fiber optic connector

^ power antenna coaxial cable coupling assembly.

2. Mount the antenna switch to the bracket with two M3.5 x 8 Torx self-taping screws (Figure 4).

3. Mount the antenna switch on the back wall of the left trunk well by:

a. loosening the nut securing the bumper to the rear of the body

b. sliding the antenna switch assembly between the body and washer

c. tightening the nut

4. Disconnect the mini-UHF coupling point from the power antenna to the Tele Aid secondary antenna input (Figure 6).

NOTICE!
There are two pair of mini-UHF couplings:

^ Pair 1

The coupling to be disconnected is that where both ends come from the main harness leading to the rear and are joined together.

^ Pair 2

DO NOT disconnect the coupling (A, Figure 6) where one end comes from the bumper antenna (B, Figure 6); the bumper antenna can be located by following the cable coming from the bumper just below the antenna switch mounting point. This is the primary Tele Aid antenna and failure of the Tele Aid system will result if disconnected.

5. Route the female mini-UHF from step 4 to the antenna switch assembly and connect it to the lead labeled Emergency (Figure 6).

6. Route the male mini-UHF from step 4 to the antenna switch assembly and connect it to the jack labeled Antenna (Figure 6).

7. Connect the 4-pole electrical connector to the antenna switch (Figure 6).

8. Reroute and redress all cables leading to the antenna switch assembly.

9. Cut a flap (left, right, and bottom only) approximately 1-1/2 inches high x 2 inches wide in the forward lower section of the left trunk-liner panel (Figure 7).

10. Route the antenna coaxial cable from the console, 25-pole D-connector, 15-pole D-connector, and fiber optic (D2B) cables through the opening while reinstalling the trunk-liner panel (Figure 5).

11. Route the antenna cable from the antenna switch through the hole in the rear of the trunk-liner panel (Figure 8).

12. Mount the PSE module to the mounting plate with the optical connector facing up, and secure it with five M4 x 6 screws (Figure 9).

Note:
If the CD changer is to be installed, the CD changer bracket will be used for the final telephone component assembly mounting. The telephone component sub-assembly will then mount to the CD changer bracket outer wall.

13. Place the linear compensator, with the 14-pole connector facing up, into the mounting plate recess and secure it with four M3.5 x 8 Torx screws (Figure 10).

14. Connect the 25-pole Y-connector labeled PSE to the PSE and the 14-pole green connector to the linear compensator (Figure 11).

15. Place the VRM into the second bracket recess and secure it with two M3.5 x 8 Torx screws (Figure 11).

16. Proceed as follows:

^ If installing the CD changer, proceed to step 17.

^ If installing the telephone only, skip to step 18.

17. Main bracket assembly - telephone & CD

a) Place the CD base bracket (basket) over the two studs in the left side trunk well bottom and secure it with two M6 nuts.

b) Secure the top of the bracket with two # 12 sheet metal screws into the longitudinal rail clips (Figure 12).

c.) Secure the telephone component subassembly to the back of the CD 'drop-in' bracket with two M5 x 6 machine screws (Figure 13).

18. Main bracket assembly - telephone only Secure the telephone component subassembly to the back of the telephone base bracket (Q 6 82 0396) with two M5 x 6 machine screws (Figure 14).

19. Locate the completed assembly near the trunk well and connect the 25-pole vehicle harness to the PSE and linear compensator 25-pole Y-cable (Figure 15 [shown with the CD changer]).

20. Remove the protective caps and connect the fiber optic cables to the connector receptacles on the side of the PSE and voice recognition modules (Figure 15).

Note:
Be sure to place the connector labeled TEL into the PSE and the connector labeled VR into the voice recognition module.

21. Connect the antenna switch coaxial cable to the linear compensator jack labeled Antenna (the bottom connector after installation) (Figure 15).

Note:
Be sure that the proper coaxial connections are made. DO NOT reverse the connections in steps 21 and 22.

22. Connect the coaxial cable from the center console to the linear compensator jack labeled Portable (the top connector after installation) (Figure 15).

23. Connect the 15-pole D-connector to the VRM (Figure 15).

24. If installing the telephone with the CD changer, carefully lower the completed assembly into the well and secure it with four MS x 10 machine screws (Figure 16).

25. If installing the telephone only, lower the completed assembly over the two studs in the well bottom and secure it with two M6 nuts. Secure the bracket-top with one # 12 sheet metal screw into the longitudinal rail clip (Figure 17).

23. Place the trunk bracket cover over the telephone components and secure it with two M3.5 x 8 self-taping Torx screws and two M3.5 plat washers.
