Inspecting Cylinders With Light Probe

Engine 602.982/983:

Remove/Install
1.1 Remove spark plugs
1.2 Remove injection nozzles
1.3 Remove glow plugs
2 Remove prechamber
3 Position piston of cylinder to be inspected to BDC

NOTE: crank engine at crankshaft, if necessary.

4 Connect cylinder inspection light (05) and insert test probe (06) of the inspection light
5 Withdraw ignition key

CAUTION: So that unintentional activation of the starter and damage to the engine is excluded.

Inspect
6 Inspect cylinder walls

NOTE: Distinguish between "visual streaks" and "scoring".

- Visual streaks are usually no more than 3 mm wide and not roughened (may be caused by ring contact, for example). They are no cause for concern. Honing marks are still visible.
- In the case of "scoring" (cylinder wear), the cylinder wall is roughened and the honing marks are no longer visible.
- In case of doubt, Remove cylinder head.

7 Inspect the remaining cylinders following the same procedure
8 Install in the reverse order.
