Outside mirror function
The mirrors are dimmed in stages depending on the actuation voltage applied. The electronic circuitry of the inside rearview mirror (A67) senses the ambient light and the light hitting the surface of the mirror glass, evaluates these input values and supplies dimming information to the overhead control panel control module (N70), which generates the message for the dimming information to the CAN B (CAN B).
The two input variables are sensed by the automatic dimming mirror sensor, forward (A67h1) in the mirror housing (rear) and the automatic dimming mirror sensor, rearward (A67h2) in the inside rearview mirror unit (A67).
The left front door control module (N69/1) evaluates the dimming information and supplies the corresponding actuation voltage to the mirror dimming (M21/1h1) of the left electrically adjustable and heated outside mirror (M21/1).
Inside rearview mirror, function
The glass of the inside rearview mirror (A67) can be electro- chromatically dimmed. The mirror glass between the reflector and the glass cover contains a layer of electrolyte gel. The light transmission ratio of this gel changes when a voltage is applied to it. The inside rearview mirror unit (A67) compares the light shining in from the rear in proportion to the ambient light, calculates the necessary degree of dimming, darkens the own mirror surface over the automatic dimming mirror (A67h3) and supplies the dimming information to the overhead control panel control unit (N70).
The two input variables are sensed by the mirror dimming toward front sensor (A67h1) in the mirror housing (rear) and the automatic dimming mirror sensor, rearward (A67h2) in the inside rearview mirror unit (A67).
If an interior light is switched on or the reverse gear is engaged, the inside rearview mirror unit is always adjusted quickly to the state of maximum brightness via the automatic dimming mirror (A67h3).This is achieved by means of an additional signal lead from the overhead control panel control unit (N70) to the inside rearview mirror unit (A67).
The inside rearview mirror unit (A67) also serves as master unit for automatic mirror dimming (M21/1h1) in the left electrically adjustable and heated outside mirror (M21/1).
