Function sequence
Basic preconditions:
- The transmitter key (A8/1) in the electronic ignition switch of the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) is in the "circuit 15R ON" position.
- The gearshift lever is in the shift position "R" (reverse gear ON).

1 The backup lamp switch (S16/2) sends the following message to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) "Reverse gear on".
2 The front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) converts the signal and notifies the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) of "backup lamp ON" over the CAN interior.
3 The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) actuates the backup lamp (E3e3 and E4e4).
4 For a trailer hitch, the "backup lamp ON" signal is notified over the CAN interior to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1) and voltage for the backup lamps on the trailer switched through to the trailer hitch socket, 13-pin (X58).
