Attention!
If you are updating COMAND on Model 215 or 220 and the current SW Version is 48100 (Nov 24 2000 / V07.08) or 11/01 (Mar 14 2001 / V07.12) you will upgrade COMAND to the new so called "Modification package B+X". The customer will see some new features (listed in this bulletin) and his COMAND owners manual will not explain them. Make yourself familiar with these new features and explain them to the customer, if necessary hand a copy to the customer.

Updating COMAND on Model 203, 208, 210, 463 with Service CD S-2786-02A will not add any new features!

Software installation instructions follow:

1. Turn ignition off and remove key.

2. Turn on the COMAND unit by pressing PWR button.

3. Eject navigation CD-ROM (if installed).

4. Turn off the COMAND unit by pressing the PWR button.

5. Wait a minimum of 10 seconds.

6. Press and hold both" * " and " # " keys. While continuing to hold the keys down, turn on COMAND by pressing the PWR button.

7. "Service Download from CD" appears. Insert update CD-ROM

Note:
Dates of current and new software will appear. The "new" software date should be more current than the one being replaced. If not, abort the process by selecting CANCEL. If CD-ROM ejects itself and the CD's date of software is newer, reinsert CD-ROM and continue procedure. Do not leave the service CD in the customers car.

8. Using the cursor knob, select START HEAD UNIT (should be selected by default) and then depress the knob to begin the download process.

Attention!
The update process takes up to 50 minutes and it is not necessary for the technician to remain with the vehicle and observe the update process. The technician should return to the vehicle after the prescribed time to finish the procedure. During this time, DO NOT start the vehicle, operate any other vehicle systems, eject the CD or power down the COMAND unit. Any significant voltage drop in the vehicle could abort the update process. A partially completed update may render the COMAND unit inoperable. If the update procedure is interrupted, aborts or takes longer than 1 hour, remove the COMAND fuse for 30 seconds and restart procedure.

DO NOT insert a navigation CD into the COMAND unit if a download via CD-ROM has not been completed successfully. You may not be able to eject the navigation CD because the COMAND unit will remain in the download-mode.

9. When the update process is complete, the screen will display "SW-Download Successful".

10. Depress the rotary knob to accept the message and complete the update process. COMAND will return to radio mode.

11. Eject the Update CD-ROM and insert a Navigation CD-ROM (This is required for proper operation of the COMAND).

12. Verify that all modes of COMAND are functioning normally.
