Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair
Removing and installing A/C compressor
Shown On Model 202:
DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from welding or brazing work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning from inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with liquid refrigerant.
- Do not carry out any welding work on the closed air conditioning system or in the surrounding area. No smoking or naked flames. Wear eye protection and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas.
- Do not carry out repair work on the circuit of the air conditioning system unless the system is drained.
CAUTION: Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work.
1 Drain air conditioning system (recycling), evacuate, fill, inspect for leaks
CAUTION: Add quantity of compressor oil evacuated to refrigeration circuit when charging air conditioning (Use new compressor oil).
2 Remove lower engine compartment lining
3 Slacken poly V-belt and take off
4 Disconnect connector (A9x1)
5 Remove bolts (4), disconnect suction and pressure lines and place to one side
See "AC compressor 1" given below.
NOTE: Plug openings (parts kit)
6 Unscrew bolts (3), remove refrigerant compressor (A9)
See "AC compressor 1" given below.
NOTE: Before installing a new refrigerant compressor allow pressure in the refrigerant compressor to escape slowly by opening the cover on the pressure-line side.
- In the event that the refrigerant compressor is not renewed, replace the O-rings (moisten with compressor oil)
7 Correct oil level in refrigerant compressor
NOTE: Observe SL 83/85
8 Install in the reverse order.
CAUTION: If the refrigerant compressor was replaced because of internal damage, replace the suction and pressure lines with sealing rings.
NOTE: Observe quantity of oil to be added when replacing lines.
- See "AC compressor 2" given below.
- Replace expansion valve.
9 Replace receiver/drier
10 Switch on air conditioning and allow it to idle for approx. 4 minutes
NOTE: Set temperature dials to blue or automatic air conditioning to "LO" Blower to max.
11 Check air conditioning for proper function
NOTE: Air outlet temperature at center nozzle should not drop below + 5 degrees C, if necessary perform diagnosis accordingly.
12 Find leaky point in air conditioning circuit.
