Remove/install

DANGER:
- Hazard from touching parts which conduct high voltages.
- Do not touch parts conducting high voltages. Persons with electronic implants (e.g. heart pacemakers) must not work on the ignition system.
- Risk of injury to skin and eyes when handling hot or glowing objects.
- Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.
- Risk of fatal accident from vehicle slipping or toppling off the lift platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.


1 Remove a spark plug from each cylinder.
2 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling.
3 Position piston of cylinder to be inspected to BDC.
- To do this, crank the engine at the central bolt of the crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine: Firing order.

4 Connect the cylinder inspection light (05) and insert the flexible test probe of the inspection light into the cylinder.

NOTE: General information on inspecting cylinder walls

5 Inspect cylinder walls

NOTE: Normal condition:
- Matt-grey surface, no honing pattern.
- If the condition of the cylinder wall is not clearly recognizable:
- Remove cylinder head:
- Remove engine

6 Inspect the remaining cylinders following the same procedure.
7 Install in the reverse order.
