Fault Analysis

The Parktronic system distinguishes between a malfunction and a fault.

Malfunction
If a malfunction occurs during operation, it is indicated by the lighting of the red segments and the frames of all active warning displays. There is no warning tone.

A malfunction may be caused by a defect in one of the components (e.g. a sensor, warning display or the PTS control module), an open circuit, or by short-term interference from outside (e.g. from a pneumatic drill on a construction site, steam jet cleaners or an induction loop at traffic signals).

If a malfunction exists for less than 2 min, it is not recognized as a fault and is not stored in the fault memory.

Fault
If a malfunction exists for longer than 2 min (20 s with a diagnostic unit connected), then it is identified as a fault and is stored in the fault memory of the control module.

The fault is indicated by the lighting of the red segments in all active warning displays in conjunction with a warning tone of 3 s duration.

The warning displays are switched off after indicating the fault for 20 s.

NOTE:
Data transfer errors to the warning displays:
The warning displays and corresponding leads cannot be tested by the control module because data transfer occurs only in the direction of the warning displays (no entry in fault memory). If a warning display receives no valid signals within 1/2 s of the ignition being switched on, the two red segments of the relevant warning display light up, a warning tone (lasting approx. 3 s) is activated and after 20 s the warning display is switched off. If errors occur during operation, then the last display is preserved until valid signals are received again.
