Measurement, adjustment
1 Drive vehicle to alignment check bay
- The measuring system must be approved by Mercedes-Benz.
NOTE:
- Model Series 220 with AIRmatic: Do not perform chassis alignment checks with the engine warm; the heat from the engine can raise the temperature of the struts and affect the vehicle's ride height.
- Observe general information on chassis alignment check
2 Raise the vehicle level and lower it again using the switch on the center console
NOTE:
- Vehicles with AIRmatic:
- Raise - the indicator lamp comes on
- Lower - the indicator lamp is off
- Vehicles with Active Body Control (ABC), Code 487:
- Raise - both indicator lamps come on
- Lower - both indicator lamps are off
- Raising and lowering the vehicle reduces play in the suspension.
3 Switch off easy entry function for driver's seat and steering wheel
- Vehicles with memory function.
CAUTION: Otherwise the driver's seat and steering wheel move to a different position, e.g. when the driver's door is opened or closed. The seat can be damaged when the brake pedal retaining tool is installed.
NOTE: Deactivate using the steering wheel keys to access the "comfort and convenience" menu in the multifunction display panel, refer to vehicle owner's manual.
4 Install brake pedal winch with adapter for brake pedal winch between brake pedal and seat
CAUTION: Protect brake pedal and seat against damage.
5 Selector lever in position "P"
6 Open window, exit vehicle and close door.
CAUTION: Preparations for steering lock routine. The vehicle must not be loaded again.
7 Ignition OFF
8 Attach rapid-clamping devices
9 Fit on measuring heads
10 Unlock turn plates and sliding platforms
11 Perform initial measurement
12 Check vehicle level at front and rear axles with electronic inclinometer and adjust if necessary
13 Check and adjust rear axle toe
14 Check rear axle camber
15 Checking and adjusting camber and caster at front axle
16 Check and adjust toe on front axle
17 Perform initial measurement
18 Detach sensors
19 Remove brake pedal retaining tool with its adapter
20 Drive vehicle off measuring system
21 Lock turntables and sliding platforms
