Turning Ignition/Starter Switch to Position 1 or 2

If the verification of the transmitter key (A8/1) by the electronic ignition / starter switch control module (N73) is successful, the rotary lock in the electronic ignition / starter switch control module (N73) is enabled.

The transmitter key can now be turned to position 1 or 2. When the transmitter key is turned to position 1, the electronic ignition / starter switch control module (N73) transmits the message "Terminal 15R ON" over CAN.

When the transmitter key is turned to position 2, the electronic ignition / starter switch control module (N73) transmits the message "Terminal 15 ON" over CAN.

In position 2 a secret data exchange is carried out between the electronic ignition / starter switch control module (N73)and the engine control module to verify the drive authorization. If the drive authorization is valid and the brake pedal is actuated at the same time, the selector lever lock is canceled. The selector lever can now be moved out of the "P" position.

The engine is started in position 3. The transmitter key turns back to position 2 automatically when released.

NOTE: In positions 1 and 2 the transmitter key cannot be removed.
