Remove/Install Torsion Bar On Front Axle
- except CODE (487) Active body control (ABC)







CAUTION: Replace self-locking nuts and bolts.

DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.


1 Raise vehicle.
2 Remove engine compartment paneling
3 Unscrew nut (23c) and detach link rod (23) from spring link (17).
- Inspect boot of ball joint in spring link (17) for damage, replace spring link (17) if necessary.

CAUTION: Installation: Press link rod(23) onto hexagon fitting of ball joint in spring link.

4 Unscrew bolts (21e) and remove retaining bracket(21b).
5 Take off torsion bar (10)
- Check rubber mounts of torsion bar (10) for damage and wear and install new torsion bar (10) if necessary.

NOTE: The rubber mounts are molded onto the torsion bar (10).

6 Unscrew nut (23b) and remove link rod (23) from torsion bar (10).

CAUTION: Installation: Tighten nut (23b) only when vehicle is in curb condition. Counterhold bolt (23d) to do this with a shortened Alien wrench (shop-made tool). Knock in steering if necessary.

- Check rubber mount of link rod (23) for damage, replace link rod (23) if necessary.

7 Install in the reverse order.
