General
The instrument cluster (A1) is basically used to inform the driver about important vehicle operating conditions and to warn him about critical operating conditions if necessary. For this the instrument cluster has various warning and indicator lamps, display instruments and acoustic transmitters.
On the instrument cluster with multi-function display some warning and indicator lamps are replaced by text overlays.
The information required is transmitted from the sensors to the instrument cluster via lines or from various control modules to the instrument cluster via CAN data buses.
The instrument cluster has a microprocessor for processing the incoming data. The program and the data required are stored in an electronic memory chip (EEPROM).
