Remove/install Complete Rear Axle










DANGER:
- Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.


CAUTION: Installation Replace self-locking nuts and bolts.

NOTE:
- Following completion of installation
- Bleed ASD hydraulic system
- Check vehicle level at rear axle
- Check rear axle center assembly oil level, top up if necessary
- Check and correct headlamp adjustment

CAUTION: Installation: recut thread on frame floor with tap.

6g Spring link covering
6i Remove/install rear spring

DANGER:
- Risk of injury to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure Risk of poisoning from swallowing hydraulic fluid
- Release the pressure in the hydraulic system completely before starting any work on the system Wear protective clothing and safety glasses.


6j Remove shock absorber/strut on track control arm
6k Torsion bar linkage rod
36 Remove both frame cross struts
105 Remove/install exhaust system as from flange connection
- Refer to Remove/install exhaust system complete.
105c Exhaust heat shield
106 Remove rear of driveshaft at joint flange

NOTE:
- Flexible disk remains on propeller shaft Release guide sleeves on Hardy couplings
- Drift for releasing the fitted sleeves in the flexible couplings
- Lay driveshaft on reinforcement brace.

Driveshaft intermediate bearing

NOTE: Installation. Only tighten the bolts of the propeller shaft intermediate bearing after attaching the flexible coupling to the rear axle center assembly.

106c Driveshaft clamping nut
- Applies only to Model 202 up to approximately 10/95

110b Parking brake cables from automatic cable adjuster or idler lever, releasing and attaching

DANGER:
- Risk of poisoning from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury from brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes. Detach brake hose from floorpan.
- Pour brake fluid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.


CAUTION: Brake fluid notes

111E Detach brake hose from floorpan.

CAUTION:
- Seal off lines immediately using plugs. The brake fluid reservoir must not be allowed to empty completely.
- Installation: The brake hose (111e) must not be twisted after tightening.
- Installation: Bleed brake system

115 Remove fuel pump assembly from rubber rings and tie into place with wire
140 Shield on fuel pump assembly
HS Hydraulic line

NOTE: Removal: Seal the threaded opening on the ring cylinder and line.

L6 Rear axle VSS [GES] sensor
- Vehicles with ABS only

NOTE: Clean magnetic tip, replace O-ring.

L6/3[KLA],L6/4 Rear wheelspeed sensors, left and right sides, removal and installation
X33/17 Plug for right-side headlight range control
X36/3 Plug-in connection, fuel pump wiring loom, 2-pin, separate, reconnect
X62/1,X62/2 Plug-in connection, wheelspeed sensor/ brake-pad wear indicator, left rear

NOTE: If installed.

X62/11 ABS rear axle VSS [GES] sensor (2-pin)
