Variable Cruise Control Switch

With code (440a) Cruise Control
except code (494a) USA version

Variable cruise control switch position
- Behind steering wheel.

Variable cruise control switch task
- Setting cruise control/Distronic and vehicle speed limiter.

Variable cruise control switch design/function
- When the variable cruise control switch (S40/4) is operated, two contacts are always operated at the same time. The actual input is performed by one contact closing, e.g. in order to store the speed. Each time this contact is operated, the safety contact must also close at the same time so that the input is accepted.

NOTE:
- The switch over between cruise control mode/Distronic and variable speed limiter (VSL) is performed by pressing the sliding part of the switch (direction 5).
- On models fitted with EIS control module the switching signals are detected by the EIS control module and transferred over the CAN databus.
- On models not fitted with EIS control module, the variable cruise control switch is connected directly to the engine control module.
- On models fitted with steering column module the switching signals are detected by the steering column module control module (N80) and transferred over the CAN databus.
