Removing, installing

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury from caustic burns to eyes and skin from battery electrolyte or from handling damaged lead-acid batteries.
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and eye protection. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.



1 Disconnect ground cable of battery
2 Take off cover (1) of fuse and relay box

NOTE: Push the two locks (2) forward for this step.

CAUTION: Installation: Inspect rubber seal in cover (1), replace if necessary.

3 Separate plug connections (N3/10) in fuse and relay box
4 Separate plug connection (X35/63) in fuse and relay box
5 Separate plug connection (K40) in fuse and relay box
6 Pull engine wiring harness together with rubber seal (3) out of fuse and relay box

CAUTION: Installation: Ensure rubber seal (3) is properly installed.

7 Press plug connections (G3/3x1, G3/4x1) of 02 sensors (upstream of TWC) out of the fixture and separate
8 Remove cable strap (4)
9 Pull engine wiring harness forward below the cover (5) and place to the side
10 Disconnect positive terminal (6) at the battery
11 Open cover (7) of terminal block (8)
12 Disconnect positive cable (9) at terminal block (8)
13 Detach shield (10)
14 Take off brackets (11,12) of positive cable (9)
15 Pull out positive cable (9) and place to the side
16 Remove engine compartment paneling
17 Separate plug connections (G3/5x1, G3/6x1) of O2 sensors (downstream of TWC)

NOTE: Press the plug connections out of the fixtures for this step.

18 Disconnect ground cable (W11/5)
19 Take off shield (13) of automatic transmission connector (X22/2)

NOTE: Only models fitted with transmission 722.6.

20 Separate plug connection (X22/2) of automatic transmission

NOTE: Only models fitted with transmission 722.6.

CAUTION: Installation: Inspect O-ring of connector (X22/2), replace if necessary.

21 Separate plug connection (X49/1) of reversing light switch

NOTE: Only models fitted with transmission 716.6.

22 Install in the reverse order.
23 Read diagnostic trouble code memory and erase.
