GF83.70-P-0006Q Stationary Heater (STH), Function
- with CODE (228) Stationary heater [models 209.3 up to 31.5.04]
In cold seasons before starting a trip, the stationary heater (STH) ensures:
^ the passenger compartment is preheated,
^ the windows are free of ice and condensation,
^ the engine is preheated.
The use of a stationary heater (STH) helps to reduce:
^ the risk of an accident by providing excellent vision before starting out on a trip,
^ the mechanical wear to the automotive engine associated with a cold start,
^ fuel consumption and at the same time it also helps to preserve environmental resources by cutting down the pollutants in exhaust emissions when starting up a previously heated vehicle engine.
The stationary heater (STH) also comprises the stationary ventilation function. In cases of high ambient temperatures or low ambient temperatures and a high passenger-compartment temperature due to strong solar radiation, the switch-on signal will only activate the passenger-compartment ventilation.
The stationary heater (STH) (A6) starts up when the passenger compartment temperature drops below the preset value during a heating period - because of the stationary ventilation.
Depending upon the response to temperature changes it may happen that during a heating period there is a frequent switching to and fro between stationary ventilation and heating.
The heating mode or stationary ventilation can
^ be preprogrammed via the instrument cluster (A1) or
^ manually with the STH radio remote control transmitter (A8/3) or
^ with the stationary heater switch (N72s12)
In the instrument cluster (A1) up to three preselect times can be stored, of which only one can be activated. The multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1) here serves as a display instrument.
Heating mode or stationary ventilation is also immediately switched off manually using the STH remote radio control transmitter (A8/3) or the STH switch (N72s12), regardless of the previous type of triggering.
The range of the STH radio remote control transmitter (A8/3) is approx. 300 m depending on ambient influences.
The central component of the stationary heater (STH) is the STH heater unit (A6). In spite of its compact dimensions the STH heater (A6) combines all the components necessary for generation of heat and heat exchange into a single unit.
The STH heater unit (A6) is connected directly to the heater and coolant circuits for the vehicle engine and makes use of them together with its own circulation pump (A6m1) to transfer heat.
For the fuel supply the STH heater unit (A6) has an external STH fuel metering pump (Y23) located in the area of the vehicle fuel tank.
Depending upon the design of the burner elements, the STH heater unit (A6) is suitable for vehicles that run on diesel and gasoline fuels. The respective design is identified on the model label either by the lettering "Diesel" or "Gasoline".
