GF91.60-P-4018-01QB Supplemental Restraint System Control Unit, Task

GF91.60-P-4018-01QB Supplemental Restraint System Control Unit, Task
- up to 31.5.04
- with CODE (491) USA version

The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) has the following tasks:
^ Self-test with circuit 15R ON and continuous system monitoring while driving.
^ Storage of up to 10 recognized faults in the diagnostic trouble code memory.
^ Detection of front passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition sensor (B48).
^ Detection of status of driver seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/3) and front passenger seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/4).
^ Deployment of airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15).
^ Actuation of automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp (N72/1e1) via upper control panel control unit (N72/1).
^ Prevention of false deployments in normal vehicle operation through additional safety sensor.
^ Recording of up to 5 crash logs.
^ Detection and evaluation of the collision according to type and severity via two integrated sensors and the left sidebag and windowbag (A53/1) and right sidebag and windowbag (A54/1) sensors.
^ Output of the trigger pulse to the squibs of the corresponding airbag and emergency tensioning retractor units, taking the corresponding parameters into account.
^ Switching off the engine if the airbag is triggered via the ME-SFI control unit (N3/10) or the CDI control unit (N3/9),
^ Initiation of an emergency call via the E-call control unit (A35/8) when the airbag is triggered and a severe rear end collision occurs.
^ Provision of power reserves for at least 150 ms for igniting the squibs in the event of discontinuation of the power supply (to protect passengers and rescue personnel, deployment is no longer possible t = 1 sec. after disconnecting the battery at the latest)

To protect against false deployment during normal vehicle operation, e.g. due to EMC effects (EMC = electromagnetic compatibility), an additional safety sensor is integrated in the restraint systems control unit (N2/7). This sensor, which also has the function of a switch, only responds in the event of a deceleration which has been caused by a head-on collision. It is looped into the ignition circuits of the driver and front passenger airbag and conducts the full ignition current if the latter are triggered. The safety sensor is not looped into the ignition circuits of the driver/front passenger emergency tensioning retractors, its switching condition is however requested from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) before triggering the emergency tensioning retractors. The emergency tensioning retractors are only triggered where it responds to the deceleration as it occurs.

In the event of accidents with side impacts, the safety sensor remains without function. In this case additional protection from false deployment is provided by a plausibility check performed in the restraint systems control unit (N2/7). The signals received from the left sidebag and windowbag sensor (A53/1) and the right sidebag and windowbag sensor (A54/1) are compared with the internally measured acceleration values.
