AR83.70-P-5302T Remove/Install STH Heater
- with CODE (228) Stationary heater












1 Open hood and raise to vertical position
2 Disconnect battery ground line

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from fuel igniting, risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin from contact with fuel.
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
- Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.


3 Remove front section of fender liner in front fender

NOTE: Front piece, right.

4 Allow pressure in coolant circuit to escape

NOTE: In order to achieve this, undo the coolant compensation tank closure cap.

5 Detach coolant hoses (4) with clamps (3)
- See "Special Tools" given below.

6 Disconnect coolant hoses (10)
7 Detach clamp (9) and remove exhaust-gas line of STH heater unit (A6)
8 Disconnect electrical connector (11) from solenoid valve
9 Disconnect fuel hose (1) from fuel line (2)
10 Unclip fuel line (2) from clip (8)
11 Unscrew nut (6)
- Nut, solenoid valve to bracket: 4 N.m

12 Unscrew screws (5)
- Bolt for heater bracket on body: 6 N.m

13 Disconnect vent hose (12) from right fog lamp (E5/2)
14 Disconnect electrical connector (13) of right fog lamp (E5/2)
15 Disconnect electrical connector (14) from STH heater unit (A6).
16 Remove bolts (15)
- Nut for solenoid valve on heater unit: 6 N.m

17 Remove STH heater unit (A6) downwards out of bracket (16)

NOTE: In doing so push bracket (7) slightly to one side.

Disassemble/assemble
18 Disconnect coolant hose (18) from STH heater unit (A6).
19 Disconnect fuel hose (17) with fuel line (2) from STH heater unit (A6)
20 Undo screw (19) and disconnect clip (20)
21 Remove suction muffler (21) from STH heater unit (A6)
22 Turn in screws (15) into holes provided in the STH heater unit (A6) and undo them again

NOTE: This only applies when a new STH heater unit (A6) is installed.

23 Assembly is carried out in the reverse sequence
24 Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence.

Testing

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from fuel vapors, risk of poisoning from inhaling combustion gases and risk of injury from burns during and after operation of heater unit
- Do not operate stationary heater, auxiliary heater or engine with heater booster in closed areas or when refueling. Allow heater unit to cool down after operation and wear protective gloves.


25 Start up stationary heater
- If the STH heater unit (A6) switches off automatically before reaching its operating temperature and cannot be restarted again, a fault interlock is present. To clear malfunction interlock, refer to Star Diagnosis.

26 Bleed coolant circuit after installing heater unit.
