Camshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair



Remove/Install Camshaft Hall Sensor

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from hydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injure to eyes and skin suffering caustic burns from battery electrolyte or from contact with damaged lead acid batteries.
- No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.
- Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked container


1 Disconnect ground cable of battery

NOTE:
- Turn key in electronic ignition switch EIS into position "0". Key cannot be withdrawn.
- Vehicle fitted with code (889) Keyless-Go: Switch off engine, remove Keyless-Go cards from the vehicle and store outside of transmitter range
- Installation: After connecting, read out diagnostic trouble code memory, set time at instrument cluster, encode radio, normalize power windows and activate steering angle sensor.
- Vehicles with stationary heater: adjust time display on stationary heater.

2 Remove front engine compartment paneling
3 Remove poly V-belt of supercharger
4 Remove poly V-belt
5 Remove cap of guide pulley (1)

CAUTION: Carefully lever off cap with a slotted screwdriver in order to avoid damaging the guide pulley.

6 Unscrew bolt of guide pulley (1)
- Bolt of guide pulley for compressor and major assembly belts to timing case cover: M8 x 78 68 N.m

7 Remove guide pulley (1)
8 Disconnect plug of electrical connection for camshaft Hall sensor (B6/2)
9 Remove camshaft Hall sensor (B6/2)
- Camshaft Hall sensor to cylinder head : 8 N.m

10 Install in the reverse order
11 Read out fault memory with STAR DIAGNOSIS
