Alternator: Service and Repair



Remove And Install Generator







DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from electrolytic gas. Risk of poisoning and irritation if battery acid is swallowed. Risk of injury due to burns of skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.
- Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and eye protection. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked container


1 Disconnect ground line of battery;
2 Unclip cover on face end of engine
3 Detach the right air intake hose
4 Remove fan shroud
5 Remove poly-V-belt of compressor
6 Remove poly-V-belt
7 Unclip coolant hose at the bracket (6)
8 Detach protection against accidental contact (4) and disconnect circuit B+ (1)
- Nut of terminal B+ at generator
- 14 N.m (Engine 113.990 in Model 211)
- 18 N.m (Other Engines)

9 Remove plug (2) from the generator (G2)
10 Unscrew bolts (3)
- Self-grooving screw of alternator at timing case
- Thread not pretapped: 57 N.m
- Thread pretapped: 45 N.m

11 Lift the generator (G2) up and out
12 Install in the reverse order
13 Perform basic programming
14 Read out fault memory
