Driver information on BASModels 129, 140, 163, 168, 170, 202, 208,210
For BAS a system malfunction indicator lamp is located in the instrument cluster.
On vehicles with ETS, ASR or ESP this is combined with the malfunction indicator lamp of the respective traction system
A1 Instrument cluster
A1e17 ABS MIL
A1e39 BAS malfunction indicator lamp
A1e47 BASIESP malfunction indicator lanip
A1e48 BAS/ASR malfunction indicator lamp
A1e49 BAS/ETS malfunction indicator lamp
switching on ignition and starting engine
When the ignition is switched on (ignition starter switch position "2") the malfunction indicator lamp in the instrument cluster lights up (bulb check) and goes out again once the engine is running.
If the BAS malfunction indicator lights up while the engine is running, there is a malfunction in the BAS . The system is deactivated, but the brake system with ABS remains fully effective. In the case of the combined malfunction indicator lamp (BAS/ETS; BAS/ASR; BAS/ESP), the fault may be in either the BAS or the traction system. If the former, ETS, ASR or ESP remains in operation If the latter, BAS remains in operation.
Note: In the case of vehicles with BAS integrated into the ESP, ESP is also deactivated if there is a fault in the BAS.
Driving
System faults occuring while the vehicle is being driven also cause the BAS malfunction indicator lamp to light up constantly. If the BAS malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving and goes out again after a time. the cause is insufficient battery voltage.
