Replacing Timing Chain
Removing
1 Remove cylinder head cover (20)
2 Remove spark plugs
3 Position piston of cylinder 1 to 20 degrees after ignition TDC (arrow)
NOTE: Rotate engine at front of crankshaft.
4 Lock inlet camshaft (75) and exhaust camshaft (78) with positioning pins (01) (arrows)
NOTE: So that timing chain (4) does not jump across at the camshaft gears when separated.
5 Remove chain tensioner (14)
6 Secure timing chain (4) with holding device (02)
7 Separate timing chain
Installing
8 Draw in timing chain, rivet
9 Install chain tensioner (14)
CAUTION: Installation: Prepare chain tensioner for installation.
10 Check basic position of the camshafts
11 Install cylinder head cover
NOTE: Check tightness of cylinder-head cover. Ensure gasket of cylinder head cover is correctly installed
12 Install spark plugs
DANGER:
- Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury from bruises and burns if you hold your hand into engine when it is started or when it is running.
- Secure vehicle to prevent it moving off by itself.
- Wear closed and dose-fitting work clothes.
- Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.
13 Run engine, check for leaks.
