AR40.20-P-0301A Check Front & Rear Axle With Inclination Instrument and Adjust
Checking Vehicle Level At Front And Rear Axles With Electronic Clinometer And Adjusting If Necessary
Diagram Right:
Diagram Left:
1 Observe general information on chassis alignment check
NOTE: After repair work, rock the vehicle vigorously several times to settle the suspension prior to measurement.
2 Install measuring plate (086b) in the recess in the lower wishbone
NOTE: The groove in the measuring plate (086b) should be at an angle of 90 degrees to the direction of travel
- Clean measurement points on lower wishbone
- Remove metal shavings on the measuring plate
- The measuring plate is magnetic. Information on data media e g floppy disks credit cards etc could be rendered unusable.
3 Check vehicle level at front axle via wishbone inclination.
- Attach measurement sensor (086a) (connecting cable pointing to center of vehicle) and store each measured value
- Measurement point 1 front left
- Measurement point 2 front right
4 Check vehicle level at the rear axle via the rear axle shaft inclination.
- Attach measurement sensor (086a) to left and right rear axle shaft (connecting cable pointing to center of vehicle) and store each measured value.
- Clean measurement points on rear axle shaft
- Measurement point 3 rear left
- Measurement point 4 rear right
5 Adjust vehicle level at front and rear axles
- Vehicle level outside tolerance at front or rear axle: Adjust vehicle level by changing the springs or spring rubber mounts.
CAUTION:
- On vehicles with level control, a vehicle level which is too low must not be corrected by altering the connecting rod of the level controller (control point):
- Check function of level control. If OK: Adjust vehicle level by changing the springs or spring rubber mounts.
