Supercharger design
Roots blower with two 3-vane rotors angled at 60°. The supercharger is driven by an additional poly V-belt from the crankshaft. It is engaged by means of an electromagnetic clutch at the belt pulley of the supercharger (only engines 111.943 /944 /973 /975).
The contra-rotating rotors are connected by two oil-lubricated gears. The coating of the rotors of epoxy resin is resistant to oil and fuel (crankcase ventilation).

Supercharger function
The air flowing in is inducted at the axially-positioned suction side. The rotors compress the air by changing the volume of the working chambers and transport it to the radially-positioned pressure side. Charge pressure in intake pipe maximum approx. 500 mbar.

The working chamber is sealed by means of the tightest possible air gap (0.2 mm). The two rotors are installed as an interference-fit opposite each other and rotate contactlessly in the housing.
