Design

The passenger airbag consists of a metal housing (1) containing the gas generator (4) with solid propellant and squib and the airbag (3) consisting or a high-quality tear-resistant nylon fabric.

The airbag is permanently connected to the gas generator by a filter and is stored folded up on top of the gas generator when it is not inflated. The exit opening for the airbag is closed by a fabric mat (2). The easily torn fabric mat similar to paper secures the folded airbag in the housing and is torn open when the airbag is triggered by the explosive inflation of the airbag.

The electrical connection (5) for the squib is on the left side of the housing when facing toward the front of the vehicle. The electrical connector is equipped with a short circuiting bridge which short-circuits the connection automatically when the connector is disconnected.
