- Circuit 15C OFF
Function sequence for switch on using "ON/OFF" button
Pressing the "ON/OFF" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit switches on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The signal is processed internally. All media-oriented system transport (MOST) functions are available for t = 30 min.
After expiry of this period the COMAND operating, display and controller unit automatically switches off.
Function requirements for position 0 "Key inserted"
- Circuit 15C ON
Function sequence for position 0 "Key inserted"
The circuit status is sent by the EIS [EZS] control unit to the interior CAN. The data buses are activated for t = 3 min, to provide a faster switch on.
If the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is switched on with the "ON/OFF" button, then it automatically switches off again after t = 30 min.
Function requirements for position 1 "Radio position"
- Circuit 15R ON
- The COMAND operating, display and controller unit was switched on before the transmitter key was last removed
Function sequence for position 1 "Radio position"
As soon as the transmitter key is turned to position 1 (circuit 15R ON), the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is switched on. The circuit status is sent from the EIS [EZS] control unit over the interior CAN to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The COMAND operating, display and controller unit remains active until the transmitter key is removed again.
The function options are restricted to:
- Operation of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- Multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1)
- Operation via multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
Function requirements for position 2 "Ignition"
- Circuit 15 ON
Function sequence for position 2 "Ignition"
The circuit status is sent from the EIS [EZS] control unit over the interior CAN to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. When the transmitter key is in position 2 (circuit 15 ON) all the functions in the vehicle are operational. The system which was active before it was last switched off (e.g. radio) is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed.
If the COMAND operating, display and controller unit was switched off for longer than t = 30 min, a warning menu with general information on the use of the system appears.
Function requirements for position 3 "Engine start"
- Circuit 50 ON
Function sequence for position 3 "Engine start"
The circuit status is sent from the EIS [EZS] control unit over the interior CAN to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. When in position 3 (circuit 50 ON), the engine is started. If a considerable voltage drop occurs while the engine is being started, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is switched off for the duration of the engine start, and it is switched on again once the on-board electrical system has stabilized.
Function requirements for switch on through "AUTO ON", with code (386) Mobile phone
- Circuit 15C OFF
- Run-on time running
Function sequence for switch on through "AUTO ON", with code (386) Mobile phone
The UPCI [UHI] (Universal Portable Cell Phone Interface) control unit (N123/1) on vehicles except code (228) Stationary heater receives an incoming call or an SMS as follows:
- Telephone antenna (A2/49a1)
- Direct line
- E-net compensator (A28/3)
- Direct line
- UPCI [UHI] cell phone holder (Universal Portable Cell Phone Interface) (A34/15) with cell phone inserted
- Direct line
For vehicles with code (228) Stationary heater the signal is routed from the telephone antenna over a direct line initially to the telephone/cell phone/STH radio remote control antenna splitter (A2/53) and from there over a direct line to the E-net compensator.
The UPCI [UHI] (Universal Portable Cell Phone Interface) control unit is activated and initiates a wake-up pulse over the MOST. The system components are then "woken up", the MOST system is operational in order to provide the required functions.
If after t = 30 min automatic switch-off has taken place, the system can be started again by pressing the "ON/OFF" button. The cycle of t = 30 min starts again from the beginning.
Function requirements for switch off
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit switched on
Switch off function sequence
The switch off is divided up into the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence for switch off using the "ON/OFF" button
- Function sequence for switching off at position 3 "Engine start"
- Function sequence for switch off at position 2 "Ignition" and position 1 "Radio position"
- Function sequence for switch off at position 0 "Key inserted"
- Function sequence for switch off by removing the transmitter key
- Function sequence for switch off after switching on at the "circuit 15C OFF" status
- Function sequence for switch off after activation through "AUTO ON", with code (386) Mobile phone
- Function sequence for switching-off characteristic at undervoltage
Function sequence for switch off using the "ON/OFF" button
Pressing the "ON/OFF" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit switches off the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The signal is processed internally.
Function requirements for switching off at position 3 "Engine start"
- Circuit 50 ON
Function sequence for switching off at position 3 "Engine start"
The circuit status is sent from the EIS [EZS] control unit over the interior CAN to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. When in position 3 (circuit 50 ON), the engine is started. If a considerable voltage drop occurs while the engine is being started, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is switched off for the duration of the engine start, and it is switched on again once the on-board electrical system has stabilized.
Function requirements for switch off at position 2 "Ignition" and position 1 "Radio position"
- Circuit 15 ON or circuit 15R ON
Function sequence for switch off at position 2 "Ignition" or position 1 "Radio position"
The respective circuit status is sent from the EIS [EZS] control unit over the interior CAN to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit can only be switched off using the "ON/OFF" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The signal is also processed internally in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
Function requirements for position 0 "Key inserted"
- Circuit 15C ON
Function sequence for position 0 "Key inserted"
The circuit status is sent by the EIS [EZS] control unit to the interior CAN. Switch off can be effected using the "ON/OFF" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or automatically t = 30 min after switch on.
Function requirements for switch off by removing the transmitter key
- Circuit 15C ON
Function sequence for switch off by removing the transmitter key
- In position 0 (circuit 15 C ON) the transmitter key can be removed.
- Circuit status changes to 15C OFF.
- The circuit status is sent by the EIS [EZS] control unit to the interior CAN.
- The COMAND operating, display and controller unit automatically switches off.
Function requirements for switch off after switching on at "circuit 15C OFF" status
- Circuit 15C OFF
Function sequence for switch off after switching on at the "circuit 15C OFF" status
The circuit status is sent by the EIS [EZS] control unit to the interior CAN. The "ON/OFF" button can be used to manually switch off the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and then t = 30 min after switch on, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is automatically switched off.
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit is always in "standby" mode when the interior CAN is active.
Function requirements for switch off after activation through "AUTO ON", with code (386) Mobile phone
- Activation through "AUTO ON"
Function sequence for switch off after activation through "AUTO ON", with code (386) Mobile phone
The system is either switched off via the "ON/OFF" button or with "Circuit 15C OFF". An active phone call is not interrupted by removing the transmitter key. In this case, the MOST system switches itself off.
Function requirements for switch off at undervoltage
- Battery voltage < 11.5 V or < 9.5 V
Function sequence for switch off at undervoltage
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit's control system electronics constantly monitors battery voltage. Depending on the voltage value the system behaves as follows:
- Function sequence for battery voltage < 11.5 V and > 9.5 V
- Function sequence for battery voltage < 9.5 V
Function sequence for battery voltage < 11.5 V and > 9.5 V
- A message is shown on the display asking for the engine to be switched on.
If the engine is not started, a further warning follows after t = 3 min that approx. 10 seconds remain for starting the engine before the device switches off.
- In this case, starting the engine serves to prevent the system from shutting down automatically.
- If the engine is not started, the system is automatically switched off.
If the voltage rises above 11.5 V, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is not automatically switched on again.
If a system has been shut down it can be switched back on again manually. However, the warning procedure is always accomplished as long as the fault has not been eliminated.
Function sequence for battery voltage < 9.5 V
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit is automatically put into a defined standby condition in which only the battery voltage is monitored. Additionally, the current operating condition is backed up.
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit cannot be operated or accessed using STAR DIAGNOSIS when it is in this condition. All communication with external components is stopped.
