- Voice control of VCS [SBS], with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (establishing call only)
Function sequence, establish call over mobile phone buttons
The telephone number is selected via the buttons on the mobile phone or from the mobile phone's phone book. The "Accept phone call" button is pressed. The telephone call is then established in handsfree mode.
The control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally in the mobile phone.
Establish call function sequence by using the telephone keys or the keypad on the "audio unit"
After dialing the telephone number using the telephone buttons on the "audio equipment" and pressing the "Accept phone call" button, the phone call is established in handsfree mode.
The telephone book in the mobile phone is selected using the selection menu on the "audio equipment". The name of the person to be called is selected by scrolling up and down. The following ways of dialing a telephone number are available to the user here:
- Enter telephone number using telephone buttons on "audio equipment" directly
- Search for telephone number using "Name" menu entry in the telephone book
- Search for the telephone number using the "Call lists" menu entry in the call lists (accepted, dialed)
The name of the person who you wish to call can be selected in the telephone book and the call lists by scrolling up and down. The control signals from the telephone buttons or the keypad on the "audio equipment" are internally processed and sent over MOST to the UPCI control unit. From there the control signals are sent over a direct line and the cradle to the mobile phone.
Function sequence, establish call over multifunction steering wheel button groups
The telephone book of the mobile phone is selected by pressing the system selection key (S110s3) via the selection menu in the instrument cluster (A1). The name of the person to be called is selected by scrolling forward and back in the mobile phone's phone book using the scroll forward/back button (S110s1).
The accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) can be used to establish the telephone call in the handsfree system.
The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the "audio unit" via the following components:
- Steering LIN
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Interior CAN
Communication between the "audio unit" and the mobile phone is conducted via:
- MOST
- UPCI [UHI] control unit
- Direct line
- Cradle
The display in the instrument cluster is conducted by the "audio unit" via interior CAN.
Function sequence for establishing call over VCS [SBS], with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
Voice control of the VCS [SBS] is activated by pulling the VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2) on the steering column tube module.
The control signal of the VCS [SBS] switch is forwarded to the voice control system control unit (A35/11) via the following components:
- Direct line
- Steering column tube module
- Interior CAN
- "Audio unit"
- MOST
A signal tone is emitted after the voice control system has been activated.
The signal tone is forwarded for vehicles with code (810) Sound system from the voice control system control unit over the MOST to the "audio equipment". The "audio equipment" sends the signal tone over the MOST to the sound system amplifier (N40/3).
From there, the signal tone is transmitted over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/5)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/6)
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle (H4/23)
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle (H4/24)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Subwoofer speaker (H4/29)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
In vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the signal tone is transmitted directly from the "audio unit" via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle
Establishing a connection is activated in the dialog with the VCS [SBS] with the help of voice commands, e.g. with the following:
- "Help"/"Telephone help"
- "Dial number"
- "Dial name"
- "Redial"
You can find a complete list of the commands that are available in the "Linguatronic operator's manual".
Voice commands are registered by the handsfree system microphone group (A67b1) and sent over a direct line to the voice control system control unit. From there the signals are sent over the MOST to the UPCI control unit.
The voice control of the voice control system (VCS) is used to establish the telephone call in the handsfree mode.
In vehicles with the following codes, the listed voice commands apply likewise:
- With code (390) Linguatronic - English (British)
- With code (391) Linguatronic - French
- With code (392) Linguatronic - Swiss German
- With code (393) Linguatronic - Italian

The voice input in handsfree mode is recorded by the handsfree system microphone group and for vehicles with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) sent over a direct line to the voice control system control unit. From there the signals are sent over the MOST to the UPCI control unit. For vehicles except code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) the voice input is sent over a direct line to the UPCI control unit.
The voice output for vehicles with code (810) Sound system is sent by the UPCI control unit over MOST to the "audio equipment". The "audio equipment" sends the signals over the MOST to the sound system amplifier.
Voice output is sent from the sound system amplifier over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Subwoofer speaker
- Left rear surround speaker
- Right rear surround speaker
For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output is sent from the UPCI control unit over the MOST to the "audio equipment". The signals are sent from the "audio equipment" over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle
Function sequence, terminate call over mobile phone buttons

The control signals are sent from the "audio equipment" over the MOST to the UPCI control unit. From there the control signals are sent over a direct line and the cradle to the mobile phone.
Function sequence for ending a phone call in handsfree mode
After a phone call has been terminated, the mobile phone interrupts the transmission or reception of the mobile phone signals or data. This takes place internally in the mobile phone.
