GF82.61-P-2011FAC Route Guidance Through Voice Output, Function

MODEL 203.7
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
MODEL 203.7 as of model year 09/YoM 08 model refinement package

Function requirements
- Status "Circuit 30 ON"
- System Cockpit Management System and Data System (COMAND) operating properly
- Up-to-date navigation data available
- Vehicle is underway and destination-oriented navigation is active

General
The route guidance through voice output function is an assistance function that assists the driver without distracting him from the traffic. The destination-oriented navigation of the navigation system is supported by voice outputs with the following information:
- Direction information
- Name of road onto which the next turnoff should be made

The voice data is originally stored on the navigation DVD as individual word segments. This data record is transferred automatically from the DVD to the navigation processor, where it is stored. The navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) connects these word segments to form complete instructions or pieces of information and generates corresponding low frequency (LF) signals.

While a language is being loaded from the DVD, severe vibrations (e.g. bad road conditions) should be avoided. Otherwise voice output may be given in fragments. In such an instance the language should be loaded again.

Several route recommendations in quick succession are combined to form a single voice output.

Voice output can be emitted in the following languages:
- German
- English (UK and USA)
- French
- Spanish
- Italian
- Dutch
- Danish
- Swedish
- Portuguese

Loading a language requires several seconds and changes the voice output as well as the menu texts on the display. Voice loading takes place again automatically after a power disconnection.
The route guidance via voice output is divided into the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence for voice output volume control
- Voice output function sequence

Function sequence for voice output volume control
It is necessary to differentiate between the following cases:
- Superimposition of voice output and an audio source.
- Manual voice output volume control
- Voice output mute circuit

Superimposition of voice output and an audio source.
When voice output is active simultaneously with an audio source (e.g. CD, radio), the two signal sources are superimposed. A definable difference (can be modified in "Settings" menu) is maintained between the volume of the current audio source and the voice output volume. If it was necessary for this reason to lower the volume of the audio source during voice output, it is increased again after voice output has ended.

Manual voice output volume control
The voice output volume can be adjusted during voice output. A definable difference (can be modified in "Settings" menu) is maintained between the volume of the current audio source and the voice output volume. The volume of the voice output cannot be regulated to less than a specific minimum level.

Voice output mute circuit
The navigation voice output can be muted during voice output by pressing the mute button (button marked with struck-out speaker). Muting is only valid for the current voice output. When navigation voice output and an audio source (e.g. CD, radio) can be heard simultaneously, the navigation voice output is muted when the mute button is pressed for the first time and the complete playback is muted when the mute button is pressed for the second time.

Voice output function sequence
The voice output in vehicles with code (810) Sound system, takes place in the following way:
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Amplifier for sound system (N40/3)
- Direct line
- Speaker

In vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the following speakers are installed: Left front door speaker (H4/1), right front door speaker (H4/2), left rear door speaker (H4/5), right rear door speaker (H4/6), left front door speaker, mirror triangle (H4/23), right front door speaker, mirror triangle (H4/24), center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27), subwoofer speaker (H4/29), left rear surround speaker (H4/54), right rear surround speaker (H4/57)

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via a direct line to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle
