GF82.85-P-3001PME Voice Output, Function
MODEL 203.0 /2 /7 as of 24.4.04
- with CODE (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
- up to model year 08/YoM 07
The navigation system destination-oriented navigation is supplemented by the following voice outputs:
- Directional instructions
- Name of the road to turn into
The compass direction is specified for roads without names. The compass direction is omitted in the case of streets (e.g. in towns), which are designated by a name.
The voice data is originally stored as individual word segments on the CD. This data record is automatically transferred from the CD into the navigation processor and stored there.
The navigation processor combines these word segments into complete instructions or information. Moreover, signals are generated that are forwarded via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the audio gateway control unit, where they are amplified and then output via the vehicle speakers.
The audio gateway control unit is completely integrated into the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).
Several driving recommendations in quick succession are combined into a single voice output.
Importing the national language from the CD
The following national languages can be loaded:
- English
- English
- French
- Italian
- Spanish
- Dutch
- Swedish
- Danish
- Portuguese
In the operating unit of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56), the data for the voice output is transferred from the CD into the navigation processor, where it is stored in the memory.
Importing the national language takes a few seconds and changes both the voice output and the menu texts in the display. After an interruption of the power supply, the import of the CD is automatically performed.
While a national language is being loaded from the CD, severe physical shocks (e.g. on poor road surfaces) are to be avoided. Otherwise voice output may be given in fragments. If this happens the language must be reloaded.
Control of the voice output
If a disaster message is transmitted, the voice output consists only of this message as this has absolute priority and must not be interrupted by any other message. If the user alters the volume during a navigation system voice output, this volume level is regarded as the default volume level for the next navigation system voice output.
The volume can be adjusted in the following ways:
- Set a value between audio source and voice output.
- Set a value between voice output and audio source.
- If the volume of the audio source is lower than the voice output to be listened to, the volume of the audio source is not changed.
- If the volume of the audio source is the same or louder, this is set below the volume level of the current voice output during the voice output. As soon as the voice output is ended, the volume of the audio source is restored to the original setting prior to the voice output.
- Both the audio source and the voice output can have the same volume. The system voice output can also be completely faded out.
The voice output volume has a minimum and maximum level. This value cannot be set below the minimum value or above the maximum value during the voice output. After the voice output has ended, these values are retained for the next voice outputs.
Voice output mute circuit
The navigation voice output can be muted by pressing the "MUTE" button for t ≤2 s during a voice output. In the process, a window appears in the display with the content "Driving instructions muted". Muting is only valid for the current voice output.
The voice output is activated:
- by repeatedly pressing the "MUTE" button,
- by pressing the "NAV-Repeat" button,
- by switching the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) off and on,
- by switching the navigation on and off or
- automatically after completion of the current destination oriented navigation.
If a traffic announcement and the voice output can be heard simultaneously, the traffic announcement is muted using the "MUTE" button when the button is pressed for the first time. When the button is pressed for the 2nd time, the voice output is muted.
