Component Identification:

In the partial and full load ranges, the intake camshaft is advanced by up to a 50° crankshaft angle and the exhaust camshaft retarded by up to a 40° crankshaft angle. The engine torque curve is thereby optimized and the exhaust characteristics improved.

The camshaft intake and camshaft exhaust solenoids are actuated by the ME control unit with a PWM signal (pulse-width modulated signal) and thus turn the adjustment piston of the camshaft adjustment.
Actuation takes place in line with the performance map and permits continuous adjustment of the camshafts.
