- At the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) in combination with the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1)
- With the voice control system (VCS) (code 813)

The telephone radio signals are transmitted and received by the telephone antenna (A2/22) and amplified with the portable CTEL antenna amplifier (A28/2). The display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) shows when the telephone is in its ready status the destination field strengths in 5 grades. All control and useful signals (e.g. audio signals when hands-free system activated) are transferred via the digital data bus (D2B). For this reason, the portable CTEL (A34/6) requires the telephone interface (A34/4) to serve as the interface to the digital data bus (D2B).

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) has the following telephone functions:
- Automatic disabling of telephone card when the Personal Identification Number is entered incorrectly 3 times.
- Direct dialing of the telephone number with the rotary control or number pad, display of name of party being called (when number entered is known).
