Global Positioning System (GPS) position finding

Position finding means that the current position of the vehicle is calculated. It is active with "circuit 15R ON" and is accomplished by the navigation processor integrated into the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).

During the switch-on phase the software is loaded and only basic position finding is available. After switching off "circuit 15R ON", all important positioning parameters are stored for the duration of the run-on time (approx. 30 min.).

Position finding uses 3 methods, which mutually complement each other and thus ensure very accurate and reliable position finding:
- Basic position finding (dead reckoning)
- Map-supported map matching
- GPS position finding

Manual entry of vehicle location
It is possible to enter the location manually at the radio and navigation unit (A2/56). This may be useful, for example, in the following cases:
- Following transport of the vehicle with the ferry or train.
- If no GPS reception was available at the start of the journey.
