Radio reception
The window antenna amplifier module 2 (A2/72) and the window antenna amplifier module 3 (A2/73) receive the frequency-modulated and the amplitude-modulated radio frequency signals, filter the frequencies of the radio wavebands and amplify them. The amplified radio frequency signals are then relayed to the radio receiver via a coaxial cable.
The radio receiver is included in the audio gateway, which is integrated into the radio and navigation unit (A2/56). The radio receiver demodulates the radio frequency signals, i.e. it separates the signals from the radio frequency carrier. The audio gateway amplifies the audio signals.
In South America and in Australia the radio receivers for long wave and short wave are deactivated using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
There are 10 radio station presets for each frequency band.
Tuning the radio:
- Tuning using station preset
- Tuning by program type list
- Tuning via frequency list
- Tuning by station search
- Tuning using station search with multifunction steering wheel
- Tuning using auto-store memory
- Tuning by search (the stations of a waveband are played for 8 seconds)
- Tuning by hand
- Tuning by manual frequency input via the control panel of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56)
The following functions, which are displayed on the screen of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56), are also available:
- Noise suppression
- Selection of radio station that can be received clearly (radio data system (RDS))
- Radio data system function
Radio data system
As well as the radio program, many radio stations also transmit nonaudible digital information such as the station name, the program type and traffic program identification.
This information is evaluated by the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) and displayed on the screen, provided that the following requirements are fulfilled:
- The radio data system function is activated.
- The radio is tuned to a station of the radio data system.
To protect against overheating of the sensitive components, a fan is fitted under the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).
