Activating the instrument cluster (A1)
When the instrument cluster (A1) is activated the current contents are displayed and the instrument cluster illumination is switched on in the multifunction display (A1p13).
The instrument cluster is activated in the event of "circuit 15R ON" (A1). After "circuit 15R <> OFF" the instrument cluster (A1) still remains active for a further 30 seconds after the expiry of any warning messages.
With "circuit 15R OFF" the instrument cluster (A1) is activated for 30 seconds under the following conditions:
- when the trip odometer reset button (A1s3) is pressed
- when the variable resistor for instrument illumination (A1r1) is pressed
- when the driver door is opened or closed, if an active warning is displayed, the run-on time increases to 120 seconds

Once the standing lamp or driving lamps are switched on "circuit 58d ON" the instrument cluster (A1) remains active until "circuit 58d OFF".
When the locator lighting is activated the instrument cluster (A1) is already activated when the vehicle is unlocked.

If one of the conditions mentioned while the instrument cluster (A1) is already active, then the instrument cluster (A1) remains active for a further 30 seconds from this point in time.
The instrument cluster (A1) detects the trip odometer reset button (A1s3) as jammed if it is pressed for more than 60 seconds. The trip odometer reset button (A1s3) is then interpreted by the instrument cluster (A1) as "not pressed".

Networking
The status of the left front door contact switch (S17/3) and right front door contact switch (S17/4) is read in by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and placed as a message on the Controller Area Network-Bus class B (interior) (CAN-B).
The status of the standing lamp "circuit 58d ON" or "circuit 58d OFF" is placed on the CAN-B by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
The instrument cluster (A1) receives these messages and is activated if necessary.
