Illumination of instrument cluster (A1)
The illumination of the instrument cluster (A1) switches on automatically once the instrument cluster (A1) is activated.

The brightness of the illumination depends on the following factors:
- Ambient brightness
- Status circuit 58d ON or circuit 58d OFF
- Adjustment of variable resistor for instrument illumination (A1r1)

Brightness of illumination with "circuit 58d ON" (Standing lamp ON)
A distinction is to be made between 2 cases depending on the ambient brightness which is measured by a phototransistor in the instrument cluster (A1):
- Above a defined threshold value of ambient brightness the phototransistor controls the illumination brightness. The illumination brightness increases as the ambient brightness increases, the adjustment of the variable resistor for instrument illumination (A1r1) has no effect on it.
- Below the threshold value of ambient brightness the illumination brightness depends on the ambient brightness and on the adjustment of the variable resistor for instrument illumination (A1r1), the larger value being valid.

Brightness of illumination with "circuit 58d OFF" (standing lamp OFF)
The illumination brightness via the phototransistor is only dependent on the ambient brightness. The illumination brightness can assume values from the threshold value up to maximum brightness.
The adjustment at the variable resistor for instrument illumination (A1r1) has no effect on this.

With changes in ambient brightness the brightness of the illumination only changes after 3 seconds.
