AR35.31-P-0550-13PA Calculating Shim and Inserting Into Rear Axle Housing
AR35.31-P-0550-13PA Calculating shim and inserting into rear axle housing
- Rear axle center assembly dia. 185, 198, 210
Special Tools:
Component Identification:
1 Clamp commercially available dia. gauge in gauge stand and mount on measuring plate.
2 Set dial indicator to "0" on gauging member (051b) 124 589 14 21 00 part 01 under approx. 3 mm preload. This sets gauging member height "131".
Component Identification:
3 Mount tapered roller bearing outer race (46b) on tapered roller bearing inner race of drive pinion (47) and attach magnetic disk (052c) 126 589 00 21 00 part 16.
4 Insert drive pinion (47) into measuring plate and measure drive pinion height with tapered roller bearing and magnetic disk (052c).
Enter number 1 in the data sheet
5 Read off difference "B" between gauging member height "131" and drive pinion height with magnetic disk (052c) and enter in data sheet under number 1 (e.g. 1.30 mm).
Component Identification:
Enter number 2 in the data sheet
6 Read off basic deviation "a" of drive pinion at end face (+ or -) and enter under number 2 (e.g. +0.27) in data sheet.
Calculate interim sum in the data sheet
7 Add (+) or subtract (-) values from number 1and 2, depending in prefix (+) or (-) of value at drive pinion.
Component Identification:
8 Insert gauging member (051b) part 01 of measuring device 124 589 14 21 00 into rear axle housing.
9 Screw on gauging member (051b) using fastening piece 124 589 14 21 00 part 02 and hexagon head bolt.
Component Identification:
10 Insert dial indicator (052a) with measuring pin into measuring device (052) 126 589 00 21 00.
The measuring pin for the dial indicator (052a) is screwed into the adjusting piece (052b) 126 589 00 21 00 part 10.
11 Press adjusting piece (052b) 126 589 00 21 00 part 10 against measuring device (052) and set dial indicator (052a) to "0" under 2 mm preload. Tighten the clamp screw and when doing so check the "0" position of the P dial gauge (052a), adjust if necessary.
Component Identification:
12 Insert the measuring device (052) through the left bore in the rear axle housing.
When inserting measuring device (052) into rear axle housing, ensure that measuring pin of dial indicator is not damaged in bore.
Component Identification:
Enter number 3 in the data sheet
13 Measure difference "A1" between set gauge dimension and end face of gauging member and enter in data sheet under number 3 in positive (+) or negative direction (-)
(e.g. - 0.15 mm measured and therefore negative direction).
The specification of positive (+) or negative (-) direction is related to the direction of rotation of the dial gage pointer. Counterclockwise direction of rotation means negative direction and clockwise direction of rotation means positive direction.
Calculate the thickness of the shim "S" in the data sheet
14 Add (+) or subtract (-) interim sum of the values from number 1and number 2 as well as the value from number 3. The calculated value reveals the thickness of the shim.
Example:
Example:
Component Identification:
15 Remove measuring device (052) from rear axle housing. Detach gauging member (051b).
16 Insert the shim with the calculated shim thickness "S" into the rear axle housing.
Only hardened shims may be used. They are available in various thicknesses (see parts list). If necessary, grind down the shim accordingly.
