Function
The function washing is activated by pressing the combination switch (S4) beyond the catch point.
In this case, the windshield washer fluid pump (M5/1) is actuated directly by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

If washing takes place whilst
- level 2 wiping is in progress, wiping takes place at level 2.
- level 1 or intermittent wiping is in progress, wiping takes place at level 1.
- the combination switch (S4) is in the park position, wiping takes place at level 1.

If the windshield washer fluid pump (M5/1) is continuously requested for 15 seconds a "stuck button" is detected and the windshield washer fluid pump (M5/1) is switched off.

Follow-up wiping
The number of afterwipe processes depends on the time for which the combination switch (S4) is operated. Afterwiping becomes active as soon as the combination switch (S4) is no longer activated.

If the windshield washer fluid pump (M5/1) is requested for an activation time of less than 1 second, a single afterwipe takes place. If the initial activation time is greater than 1 second, a triple afterwipe take place. If within the afterwipe period a new wash is actuated, then a triple afterwipe is always performed.

If afterwiping takes place whilst level 2 is active, the afterwiping also takes place at level 2. If afterwiping takes place whilst level 1 or intermittent wiping is active, afterwiping takes place at level 1; the same applies if the combination switch (S4) is in the park position.
