GF82.60-P-2003PMB Volume/Tone Adjustments, Function

MODEL 203.0 /2 /7 as of 24.4.04
- with CODE (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
- up to Model Year 8

All volume and tone settings are performed at the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) and transmitted to the audio gateway control unit which is integrated in the radio and navigation unit (A2/56). It is necessary to distinguish between audio sources and service sources:
Audio sources:
- CD drive
- Radio tuner

Service sources:
- Announcement of the traffic information radio channel
- Telephone system
- Voice control system (VCS)

Volume setting
The volume of whichever audio source is selected or in use can be adjusted using the rotary switch on the radio and navigation unit (A2/56). In addition, the volume can be adjusted separately in all the audio and service areas (e.g. telephone, traffic information radio channel). It is possible to increase or decrease the volume of a traffic information in the "Traffic information radio channel" menu with the aid of the softkey "Vol". Using the "Reset" function, predefined settings for all sound parameters, including volume, can be selected and reset to the manufacturer default settings.

Speed-dependent volume control (SDV)
The volume is adapted in accordance with the background noise inside the vehicle via the SDV and the automatic vehicle interior noise adaptation. In the process the vehicle speed signal and signal input to the sound amplifier microphone (B25/6) are used as a relationship indicator.

Muting
If the user presses the "Mute" function key, the audio source currently being listened to is muted and the CD drive is switched to a pause status. The "Mute" function status can also be triggered automatically. If a telephone system (with code (388) Telephone "portable CTEL", UPCI system) is installed in the vehicle, the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) switches over to telephone mode when a telephone call is received and accepted. The audio source is muted.

Tone setting
The radio and navigation unit (A2/56) allows manual tone settings to be made (bass, treble, balance, fader) for each audio source.

The "Audio" function can be called up from all other functions, except the "Auto-On" function. The first sound setting shown on the display of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) is the bass setting. By pressing the "Audio" function key repeatedly, the other tone controls for treble, balance (left and right), fader (front and rear) as well as for volume increase and traffic announcements can be called up. The messages are displayed on the screen of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) in the "Audio" setting. The volume control always refers to the function that is currently active. With a change in sound emphasis (balance, fading), the relative ratio of the volume of the individual speakers changes. The "Balance" and "Fading" can be adjusted by pressing the main key for sound distribution in the left control panel.
The signal processing required for the volume and tone settings is provided by the audio gateway control unit which is integrated in the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).

With code (810) Sound System, all speakers are connected to the sound amplifier (A2/13).
