GF82.85-P-2012PMU Navigation Mode, Function
MODEL 203.0 /2 /7 as of 24.4.04
- with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)
- up to Model Year 8
The location of the vehicle as well as the direction and distance to the destination are determined with the aid of the navigation system (after entering the destination). Then the required measures for reaching the destination are started (route guidance).
A navigation processor with a multi-standard disk drive for reading the digital map data is an integral part of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The processor is activated by pressing the "NAV" button on the operating unit.
The note "Please insert navigation DVD" appears on the navigation system screen.
This note is intended to ensure that the correct digital versatile disk (DVD) is used. The multi-standard disk drive can also play audio CDs.
Destination entry
Using the system menus, the destination is input at the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3); this information is then processed by the integral navigation processor. The destination can be entered in the following ways:
- Address
- Destination memory
- Destination with map
- Special destinations (e.g. railway station, airport)
- Travel guide
- Last destinations
Predictive speller
During entry of the destination, letters not yet entered are supplemented from a list. The predictive speller is only active for the alphabetic name directory.
This pertains to the entry of the destination and street for navigation. In the menu Special destinations the submenus "Bypassing other locations..." and "National destinations..." are assisted. The menu "Extra regional destinations..." is subdivided into an additional submenu. The individual menu items in this submenu use the alphabetic name directory.
Dynamic supplementation
This function is realized with the manual entry of the destination. During entry of the destination, letters not yet entered are supplemented from a list. The supplemented characters have a black background. Deleting can be accomplished character by character.
Position finding
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) calculates continuously the location of the vehicle with the aid of the following procedures:
- Global Positioning System (GPS) position finding
- Basic position finding (dead reckoning)
- Map-supported map matching
The navigation processor calculates the most probable location by continuously comparing the results returned by these three methods.
Route calculation
The route is calculated by the navigation processor in accordance with the specified destination, or automatically, after a deviation from the suggested route has taken place. The calculated route is stored in the navigation processor.
Route guidance
Navigation starts once the navigation processor has carried out the route calculation. 3 types of displays can be selected for graphic navigation:
- with map
- with map and symbol display before turn-off points
- with symbol display only (guide symbols)
The operator can switch between three types of displays as required. The destination-finding system is also supported by voice output from the vehicle loudspeakers.
