Dealer Option Phone Version Coding

For all Model Year 2004 models W220 and C215, it is necessary to version code the vehicle for the dealer option for Cellular Telephone. This is done by the below outlined procedure:

1. Connect to SDS.

2. Version code the cellular telephone by following the path:

1) Control units

2) Information and communication

3) Audio, video, navigation, and Telematics

4) CTEL - Control unit Telecommunications

5) Control unit adaptations

6) System configuration

7) Optional equipment

3. Set "Cellular Telephone" to "PRESENT"

4. Press key "F5" to transfer coding.

5. When prompted, select "Yes" to restart ring.

6. Disconnect SDS.

Note:
This procedure must be performed on all Model Year 2004 models W220 and C215 WITH or WITHOUT an installed telephone kit.

FAULT CODES

It is very important to realize that once the vehicle is version coded for Cellular Telephone without a phone installed, the following DTC will be triggered by a self test:

D665 - Portable NOT CONNECTED

This fault code will also prompt the following TeleAid fault codes to be triggered:

D800 - Fault present in control module CTEL
D900 - Fault present in control module CTEL
DA00 - Fault present in control module CTEL

Because these fault codes are purposely triggered and have no effect on the operation of the telephone system, there is NO malfunction and NO reason to change the Communications Platform. Therefore, the diagnostic trouble code D665 should be ignored in this case.

HEAD UNIT DISPLAY

When telephone is version coded in the aforementioned procedure, the head unit and instrument cluster will display "Phone not inserted". This is a direct result of version coding the telephone into the vehicle. The message will appear when the telephone is installed or not.

If cellular phone is correctly set to PRESENT, and all Information, Roadside, and SOS calls continue to fail, then please contact the Technical Assistance Center (866 628 7282) via authorized dealer personnel for further assistance.
