CD changer operation (with code 819)
The CD player with changer (in the glove compartment) (A2/6) is controlled by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The control signals and the audio data from the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) are transmitted by th Digital Data Bus (D2B).

Only 12 cm Compact Discs (CDs) may be inserted into the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6). 8 cm CD adapters may not be used.

On vehicles with code (810) sound system, the sound amplifier (A2/13) is responsible for final amplification of the audio signals. The signals between the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and the sound amplifier (A2/13) are transmitted digitally via the Digital Data Bus (D2B). The amplified signals are emitted via the vehicle's loudspeaker system.

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) provides, in conjunction with the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6), the following functions:
^ "Scan" function
The tracks on one CD or the first tracks on all CDs in the entire magazine are played for 8 s. After this has been run through completely, the scan function is automatically terminated.
^ "Random" function
All tracks on one CD or on the CDs of the entire magazine are played randomly.
^ "Repeat" function
Either a single track or all tracks of one CD or of the entire CD magazine are repeated.
^ Fast forward/reverse (music search)
The music played during fast forwarding/reverse is audible. Certain parts of a title can therefore be specifically played or skipped.

If the vehicle is equipped with the sound amplifier (A2/13), the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) must be coded accordingly with the aid of STAR DIAGNOSIS. Otherwise, faults occur with the reproduction of audio signals.

With Model 209 and Model 203 as of 1.7.02 it is possible to load the navigation data first and then play an audio CD during navigation operation.

CD operation with the integrated CD drive
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) has an integrated CD drive which can be used for reading the navigation data or for playing back audio CDs (audio CDs cannot be played in navigation mode).

CD title allocation, function
Each CD includes a permanently stored table of contents (TOC record). As a result, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) clearly recognizes the particular CD, and is able to automatically name it after the one-time user allocation of the title (even if the CD is subsequently inserted in another CD magazine). The permanently stored table of contents (TOC record) additionally contains information regarding the number of tracks on a CD and the CD's total playing time.
