The steering wheel gear shifter MINUS (S110/1) and steering wheel gear shifter PLUS (S111/1) are read in via the local interconnect network (LIN) by the steering column module (N80).

Steering wheel gear shifter MINUS (S110/1)
The steering column module (N80) places the "downshift" signal on the Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C). The ETC [EGS] control unit (N15/3) receives the signal and triggers the shifting gears.

Steering wheel gear shifter PLUS (S111/1)
The steering column module (N80) places the "upshift" signal on the Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C). The ETC [EGS] control unit (N15/3) receives the signal and triggers the shifting gears.

Shifts at unacceptably high or low engine speed are not carried out.
