Reprogramming of Battery Control Module (BCM)
As of STAR Diagnosis (DAS) version 02/05, the BCM can be reprogrammed via the vehicle diagnostic socket X11/4. This document describes specific requirements for reprogramming depending on which version of STAR Diagnosis you are using.
Note:
Prior to reprogramming, ensure sufficient vehicle voltage supply (>12.5 V) using battery charger. Do not attach the negative terminal of the battery charger to the vehicle battery, but rather to a vehicle ground point as per WIS document AR54.10-P-1130T.
STAR Diagnosis Version 02/05:
When working with DAS version 02/05, selecting the battery control module with the part numbers listed below, automatically elicits a prompt to reprogram the unit to part number A211 540 69 45 with a software release of 18/03. The affected part numbers are:
^ A211 540 13 45
^ A211 540 27 45
^ A211 540 42 45
STAR Diagnosis Version 03/05:
Starting with DAS version 03/05, a selection window will appear where you can choose whether to reprogram the BCM immediately or at later time.
To reprogram, navigate to the following STAR Diagnosis menu: Control Units --> Body --> BCM- Battery Control Module
Note:
Following this selection, DAS performs a background query for the control unit part number and displays a prompt for reprogramming if the part number matches the previously three listed numbers. To perform the reprogramming, carefully follow the steps described in DAS.
Caution! Aborting the reprogramming procedure will make the BCM inoperable and require that the BCM be replaced.
Note:
If mandatory used part return is in effect (test/remaining market), a notice stating "BCM defective due to flash abort" must be cited on the warranty return delivery document.
Note:
Following reprogramming, the new part number A211 540 69 45 with software release 18/03 is permanently entered into the BCM. During all subsequent work with DAS, the new part number will be shown, although a BCM with a preceding part number on the printed label may be installed.
Note:
The following allowable labor operations should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair.
