The braking effect of the engine in the overrun mode is increased and the fuel consumption is reduced by means of the deceleration fuel shutoff.

In the overrun mode, the ME control unit switches off the fuel injection valves which are dependent on the coolant temperature as well as on the gear and rpm, if:

^ Accelerator pedal not depressed
^ Vehicle not in cruise control mode

The fuel injection valves are switched on again when the accelerator pedal is operated.
