The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is equipped with an integrated digital versatile disk (DVD) ROM drive, which supports the video DVD and is used for playing audio CD

CD changer mode (with code (819) CD changer (6-disc))
The CD player with changer (A2/6) is controlled by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The control and audio signals from the CD player with changer (A2/6) are transmitted by the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST), while the audio data are forwarded to the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) and to the sound amplifier (A2/13) (with code (810) Sound system), before they are output via the vehicle speakers.

Only audio CDs with the appropriate file format can be used as a medium in the CD player with changer (A2/6).

In combination with the CD player with changer (A2/6), the following functions are available:
^ "Scan" function
The track of a CD or the 1st track of the CD in each case of the entire magazine are played for t = 8 seconds. After this has been run through completely, the scan function is automatically terminated.
^ "Random" function
All the titles on a CD or the entire CD magazine are played in accordance with the random principle.
^ "Repeat" function
Alternatively a title, a CD or the entire CD magazine is repeated.
^ Fast forward and rewind (music search)
The music played is audible during fast forward or reverse. Certain parts of a title can therefore be specifically played or skipped.

CD title allocation, function
Each CD contains a fixed table of contents (TOC entry). As a result, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) recognizes the particular CD and is able to automatically name it after the one-time user allocation of the title (even if the CD is subsequently inserted in another CD magazine).

The table of contents (TOC record ) additionally contains information regarding the number of titles on a CD and the CD's total playing time.

If the vehicle is equipped with the sound amplifier (A2/13) (models 230.467/474/475 with code (810) Sound system), the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) must be coded appropriately with the aid of the STAR DIAGNOSIS. This is to prevent malfunctions in the reproduction of audio signals.
