GENERAL INFORMATION
The voice control system (VCS [SBS]) can be used to call up and operate the individual functions in the driver information system and telephony. The VCS is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3). Voice control can be carried out by spelling out words or speaking complete words into the hands-free system microphone (B25).
Operating instructions
Voice control is activated and deactivated using the VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2) on the steering column tube module (N80).
A signal tone sounds after activating the voice control.
Voice control function sequence
The control signal of the VCS [SBS] switch is forwarded in the following way to the COMAND controller unit:
- Steering column tube module
- Interior CAN
Voice input is accomplished via the associated hands-free system microphone connected to the COMAND controller unit via a discrete line. The words spoken into the hands-free system microphone are converted into an electrical signal and forwarded to the COMAND controller unit. If required, the voice output LF signals are then forwarded via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier (N40/3) (with code (810) Sound system), where they are amplified and output via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
In vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the LF signals are amplified in the COMAND controller unit and output on the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
The telephone book not only stores a telephone number and name, but also a voice tag of the name. If the telephone book is transferred from the mobile phone to the COMAND controller unit, all the telephone book entries are then also made available for the voice control system.
