Opening of Vario Roof, Function

Opening of Vario Roof, Function

The illustrations show the individual stages when opening the vario roof

Function requirements:
- Terminal 15 "ON"
- No low voltage or overvoltage
- Trunk lid and lock pawl closed (CAN message from rear SAM control module (N10/8))
- Vehicle speed V ≤ 5 km/h
- Trunk partition closed (CAN message from PSE control module (A37))
- Roll bar deployment not active
- Actuation request from vario roof switch (N72s16) until the vario roof is fully open (CAN message from lower control panel control module (N72))

NOTE: Remote trunk release is no longer possible until the vario roof is fully open.

The rear window defroster remains disabled until the vario roof is closed again.

If the roll bar switch (N72s17) and vario roof switch (N72s16) are actuated simultaneously, adjustment of the roll bar is interrupted, and it is necessary to press the vario roof switch (N72s16) again to activate the vario roof function.

Function sequence
Stage 0 (operating time approx. 1 sec)
- Release latches:
- Main valve (Y55/1y1)
- Open vario roof solenoid valve (Y55/1y4) and
- Close vario roof solenoid valve (Y55/1y3) are activated.

Stage 1 (operating time approx. 4 sec)
- Move front side windows to short stroke position.

NOTE: During vario roof operation, the side windows can be moved only to the short stroke position.

- Open rear side windows
- Left rear power window motor (M10/5) and
- Right rear power window motor (M10/6) are activated.

- Unlock tubular frame and vario roof and open trunk lid
- Tubular frame and vario roof latches solenoid valve (Y55/1y5) is activated.

Stage 2 and stage 3 (operating time approx. 4 sec)
- Rear shelf side flaps fold out
- Side flaps motor (M49/1) is activated.

- Open vario roof
- Open vario roof solenoid valve (Y55/1y4) is activated.

NOTE: The two-piece rear shelf is positively controlled mechanically by the main bearing with the vario roof sequence

Stage 4 (operating te approx 2 sec)
- Lower folded vario roof into trunk (load assist)
- Load assist down solenoid valve (Y55/1y6) is activated.

NOTE: The hydraulic fluid is forced out of the hydraulic cylinder by the weight of the vario roof.

Stage 5 (operating time approx. 3 sec)
- Close trunk lid and lock tubular frame and vario roof
- Tubular frame and vario roof latches solenoid valve (Y55/1y5) is deactivated.

Stage 6 (sequence occurs in parallel with locking in stage 5)
- Close front side windows
- CAN message to right/left door control module (N69/1, N69/2)

Run-on time of hydraulic cylinders
The hydraulic cylinders in question remain activated for a short time even after reaching the individual lit switch positions in order to compensate for tolerances in the switching points of the lit switches

Interruption of sequence
- If the vario roof switch (N72s16) is released, the opening sequence is interrupted mediately at any te for safety reasons (stop function).
- Roll bar crash deployment active
- Temperature in hydraulic unit (A7/5) too high (warning in instrument cluster).
