GF00.20-P-2007R Remaining Distance, Function
GF00.20-P-2007R Remaining Distance, Function
- MODEL 230 up to model year 08/YoM 07
The displayed remaining distance is 15,000 kilometers or 10,000 miles immediately after the oil change reset.
The remaining distance calculated during the service interval is greatly dependent on the starting distance.
Starting distance
The starting distance minimum refers to the mileage in kilometers or miles which can be covered up to the next service. However, this only applies if the prescribed nominal quantity of engine oil was filled in when the oil was changed. The starting distance is dependent on:
- The selected quality factors (the quality factors are preset to basic settings in the factory. They can be changed via Star Diagnosis if required by the operating conditions.)
The starting distance is not dependent on the driving conditions (evaluation of the distance covered) or any possible oil refills.
The default value is usually 15,000 kilometers or 10,000 miles. However, the value may differ depending on quality factors.
Following each oil change, the starting distance is automatically set to its initial value by the oil change reset. The starting distance is an internal cannot operand and be displayed on the instrument cluster (A1). The starting distance can only be displayed with Star Diagnosis.
The remaining distance is normally displayed in the right multifunction display (A1p15) on the instrument cluster (A1).
Remaining distance
The remaining distance is equal to the starting distance immediately after an oil change. However, this is only the case if the prescribed nominal quantity of engine oil was filled in when the oil was changed.
The remaining distance is the distance remaining between the current kilometer reading and the next service .The possible interval length is at least as long as the remaining distance displayed immediately following an oil change. However, it is no more than twice the starting distance.
The remaining distance is dependent:
- on the starting distance
- on the driving conditions assessment (an of the distance traveled is carried out for this purpose.)
- on any oil fills re
With ASSYST the driving conditions are also taken into consideration: With favorable assessment in the event of conditions such as:
- few cold starts,
- no high engine speeds,
- few short-distance trips,
and oil refills, the driver is provided with a quantity rebate, which extends the remaining distance and therefore the service interval.
The matter of whether the vehicle is actually being driven or whether the engine is idling is also taken into consideration. In order to achieve this, ASSYST is continuously provided with data concerning the vehicle's current operating conditions.
- With the best assessment, just 0.6 km is calculated for each kilometer driven.
In the event of an unfavorable driving distance assessment (e.g. frequent short-distance trips, many cold starts) the remaining distance and therefore the service interval are less than with a favorable assessment. (Given the same quality factors.)
- The most unfavorable calculation is up to 3 km for each actual kilometer driven.
The starting distance and the remaining distance are shown again in graphical form in the following diagram:
Following each oil change, the startup and remaining distance are set to the initial value. In this case, the standard value of 15,000 km (hatched + dark section) is shown as the starting distance (top bar). The starting distance may deviate from 15,000 km (e.g., 14,000 km; hatched section) if the quality factors do not correspond to the basic setting. The starting distance may also be less than 15,000 km if the prescribed nominal quantity of engine oil is not filled in when the oil is changed.
However, the remaining distance (lower bar) is always 15,000 km or 10,000 miles immediately after the oil change. The service interval is also always at least 15,000 km or 10,000 miles.
By means of an appropriate quantity rebate (favorable evaluation of driving distances or due to oil refills), the entire remaining distance and therefore the service interval can be increased to a maximum of twice the starting distance, in this case 30,000 km or 20,000 miles (white section).
However, a starting distance of less than 15,000 km or 10,000 miles reduces the maximum achievable service interval. See also diagrams in document "Engine oil monitoring function".
Warning threshold (distance)
With Star Diagnosis a warning threshold of between 250 km and 8000 km can be set for the remaining distance.
This warning threshold is set differently for 3 different mileages. By determining the daily mileage, the system adjusts itself to the correct annual mileage (see chart).
If the remaining distance falls below the set warning threshold, the remaining distance is automatically blended in.
Display of remaining distance (the display takes place in accordance with the setting in kilometers or miles in the right multifunction display (A1p15) on the instrument cluster):
- On driver request
- automatically, after reaching the warning threshold, after the starter switch has been moved to position "2" or the engine has been started:
The service symbol and the text "SERVICE IN xxx KM" are displayed for 10 s
- automatically after the expiration of the remaining distance, after the starter switch has been moved to position "2"or the engine has been started:
the service symbol and the text "PERFORM SERVICE" are displayed for 10 s.
- automatically, after exceeding the remaining distance by more than 100 kilometers, after the starter switch has been moved to position "2" or the engine has been started:
the service symbol and the text "SERVICE EXCEEDED BY xxxx KM" are displayed for 10 s.
The remaining distance is displayed with a resolution of 100 km or 100 miles.
All displays are shown in the "Driver information" document.
The remaining distance is displayed as standard. However, for drivers of vehicles with low annual mileage, the vehicle's operation time is always being processed in the background, to ensure the drivers are informed of an upcoming service interval. The remaining distance is compared with the remaining time on a daily basis.Under the prerequisites described in the document "Remaining time function", the display switches over and the remaining time is displayed.
If ASSYST is missing measurement, e.g. due to the failure of a sensor, it uses substitute values stored in the control units. An appropriate entry is made in the fault memory of the relevant control unit (ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10), ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit (N47-5), SBC control unit (A7/3n1) or instrument cluster (A1)).
If the operating voltage fails, the data are retained.
