GF82.70-P-2007R Telephone On/Off Switching Behavior, Function
- with CODE (388) "Portable CTEL" UPCI telephone system
- with CODE (386) Preinstallation for "portable CTEL" UPCI telephone system
- except CODE (498) Japan version

ON/Off characteristics
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system is activated using the On/Off button of the portable CTEL (A34/6). Automatic activation is also possible using a wake-up pulse via the Digital Data Bus (D2B). This can be initiated via a status of "circuit 15 ON", the radio (A2) or with code (352) COMAND operating and display system via the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
Before the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system can be used, it must be registered on the relevant telephone network (e.g. D-net or E-net). The subscriber identification module (SIM) is needed to do this, which is on the SIM card. After the SIM card has been inserted and subsequent activation has taken place, the user must enter the 4 to 8-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) when requested to do so.

This Personal Identification Number (PIN) prevents unauthorized use of the SIM card and is therefore intended to prevent abuse. If the PIN is entered incorrectly 3 times the SIM card is blocked and has to be reactivated using the personal 8-digit Personal Unblocking Key (PUK). This makes it possible to enter a new Personal Identification Number (PIN). However, if the PUK is entered incorrectly 10 times in sequence, the SIM card is rendered unusable and you must apply to the service provider for a new SIM card If the Personal Identification Number (PIN) is entered correctly, the portable CTEL (A34/6) registers on the respective service provider network and is ready for use.

Switch off characteristics
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system is deactivated using the On/Off button of the portable CTEL (A34/6) or automatically after the run-on time that is set using the portable CTEL (A34/6).
Pressing the On/Off button of the respective portable CTEL (A34/6) and then removing the SIM card puts the portable CTEL (A34/6) out of operation.

Always deactivate the portable CTEL (A34/6) before removing the SIM card, otherwise the memory chip on the SIM card may be destroyed. The Personal Identification Number (PIN) must be entered again when the portable CTEL (A34/6) is reactivated.
