Function sequence
The Electronic Toll Collection antenna (ETC) (A2/94) and Electronic Toll Collection control unit (ETC) (A50/3) are installed in the vehicle for transmitting and receiving the data. The ETC control unit communicates via the ETC antenna with the toll cashier's section. For automatic payment, a special ETC card must be inserted into the ETC control unit. All information concerning the user and the fees that have already been paid are stored on this card. The ETC control unit in the vehicle is connected to the COMAND controller unit via an RS-232C interface. The ETC also has voice output and visual output (pop-ups).
The voice output is:
- ETC card read error
- ETC card not accepted
- ETC card reader error
- ETC gate communication error
- Detailed information about previous toll payments (if the UP or RPT button is pressed)
- Card not inserted
Visual outputs (pop ups) on the display of the COMAND controller unit:
- COMAND controller unit booted and ETC card not inserted ("Please insert ETC card into ETC unit when using ETC")
- COMAND controller unit booted and ETC card inserted ("ETC is available. Please eject ETC card from ETC unit, when you leave the vehicle for security")
- Positive feedback from toll collection station ("Passing OK, Fee: xx.xx Yen")
- Negative feedback (no authorization) ("Please Stop")
